Day 4

Scripture to Read: Luke 20:9-18

As Jesus shared the Parable of the Vine-growers, we read that each slave, sent by the man who owned the vineyard, was beaten by the vine-growers and sent away empty handed. Of course, we also read that the man finally sends his beloved son, thinking the vine-growers will show his son the respect he deserves. The vine-growers, in their greediness, kill the son so they will get the inheritance of the vineyard. We, at first glance, get angry at the arrogance of the vine-growers because we know this vineyard does not belong to them. We may even think in our hearts, “How dare these vine-growers act as if they own the vineyard.” But, in the time that Jesus shared this parable it was a known fact that if a man hired vine-growers to work his vineyard and there was no heir to the vineyard, the vine-growers would become the heirs to that vineyard. Sometimes we live in this world thinking we own it, when in fact God has placed us here to be good stewards of all He has given to us. We own absolutely nothing in this world. God has blessed us with all we have and without His provision we would have nothing at all. God tells us in James 1:17 “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” We must be good stewards of all God has richly given to us because we are accountable to Him.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about all you currently have (gifts, talents, health, mind, things, etc…)? 2. How are you honoring God and being a good steward of all you do have?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Our focus this week is on the Parable of the Vine-growers. As we read through Luke 20, we find that the chief priests, scribes, and elders continued to confront Jesus. What’s so incredible is that these so-called religious leaders’ hearts were so dark from their sin that they totally missed the One, True Messiah. Jesus, knowing their hear...

Day 2

Read through Luke 20:9-18 again. Today let’s consider all the ways God speaks to us and through us. Just as God used Moses, the prophets, the judges, the apostles, and many others to write and proclaim His Word, today God uses us, His children, to proclaim Him and His Word. God speaks to us daily as we read, study, and memorize His Word. God ...

Day 3

God the Father is THE Authority over everything. God rules and reigns over all creation. It’s hard for us to understand that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit are Three, but they are One. Jesus’s authority was being questioned by the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders in Luke 20:1-8. Jesus has been given all authority by...

Day 5

As we read Luke 20, we see in verse 16 that the owner of the vineyard puts the vine-growers to death because they killed his beloved son. The owner then gave his vineyard to other vine-growers. We know God is love, but God is also just, and God holds everyone accountable for their actions. We don’t like to think about God being just; we only ...

Day 6

God the Father has given us His Word to guide us, feed us, encourage us, challenge us, mold us, transform us, and so much more. God’s Truth, as God tells us in Hebrews 4:12, “is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the ...

Day 7

As we close out this week’s devotions, there is no doubt that God has taught us a lot from His Word. The last thing we find today is Jesus’s challenge in Luke 20:17-18, “But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘Then what is this statement that has been written: ‘A stone which the builders rejected, this has become the chief cornerstone’? 18 Everyo...
