Day 1

Scripture to Read: Luke 20:9-18

Our focus this week is on the Parable of the Vine-growers. As we read through Luke 20, we find that the chief priests, scribes, and elders continued to confront Jesus. What’s so incredible is that these so-called religious leaders’ hearts were so dark from their sin that they totally missed the One, True Messiah. Jesus, knowing their hearts, shared the Parable of the Vine-growers. The owner of the vineyard is God the Father. The vine-growers or tenants were the chief priests, scribes, and elders. The slaves were Moses, the prophets, the judges, and others that God used in the Old Testament to proclaim His Truth to the Nation of Israel. The vineyard is the world, and finally, the “beloved son” is our Lord Jesus Christ. God’s plan has always been a plan of redemption (saving, setting free all mankind from the power and penalty of sin). God makes this clear as He lays out the judgment for the serpent in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3:15, “And I will make enemies of you and the woman, and of your offspring and her Descendant; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise Him on the heel.” Jesus did crush Satan’s head through His death, burial, and resurrection. Satan bruised the heel of our Lord Jesus through the crucifixion. The point today is that the vine-growers were unwilling to listen to the messengers the owner sent to them, including his beloved son. We must never close our hearts and ears to God’s Word.

Challenge & Application

1. What did Good teach you today through the Parable of the Vine-growers? 2. What will you do to make sure your heart and ears are always opened to God’s Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Read through Luke 20:9-18 again. Today let’s consider all the ways God speaks to us and through us. Just as God used Moses, the prophets, the judges, the apostles, and many others to write and proclaim His Word, today God uses us, His children, to proclaim Him and His Word. God speaks to us daily as we read, study, and memorize His Word. God ...

Day 3

God the Father is THE Authority over everything. God rules and reigns over all creation. It’s hard for us to understand that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit are Three, but they are One. Jesus’s authority was being questioned by the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders in Luke 20:1-8. Jesus has been given all authority by...

Day 4

As Jesus shared the Parable of the Vine-growers, we read that each slave, sent by the man who owned the vineyard, was beaten by the vine-growers and sent away empty handed. Of course, we also read that the man finally sends his beloved son, thinking the vine-growers will show his son the respect he deserves. The vine-growers, in their greedin...

Day 5

As we read Luke 20, we see in verse 16 that the owner of the vineyard puts the vine-growers to death because they killed his beloved son. The owner then gave his vineyard to other vine-growers. We know God is love, but God is also just, and God holds everyone accountable for their actions. We don’t like to think about God being just; we only ...

Day 6

God the Father has given us His Word to guide us, feed us, encourage us, challenge us, mold us, transform us, and so much more. God’s Truth, as God tells us in Hebrews 4:12, “is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the ...

Day 7

As we close out this week’s devotions, there is no doubt that God has taught us a lot from His Word. The last thing we find today is Jesus’s challenge in Luke 20:17-18, “But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘Then what is this statement that has been written: ‘A stone which the builders rejected, this has become the chief cornerstone’? 18 Everyo...
