Day 3

Scripture to Read: Luke 16:25-26

What we read today are some very sobering words. As we know from yesterday’s devotion, the rich man had called out to Abraham, asking Abraham to send Lazarus over to help bring him some relief from his agony. Today we read Abraham’s response. Abraham reminded the rich man of the rich man’s failure to show compassion for Lazarus while living on earth. Abraham also reminds the rich man that the rich man lived incredibly well on earth and received all kinds of good things. Abraham then reminds the rich man that Lazarus received nothing but bad things while living on earth. The sin of the rich man was not that he had good things. The rich man’s sin was that he did not share with Lazarus, or anyone else from what we can tell, from the good things he had been given while living on earth. Then Abraham reminds the rich man that there was also a large chasm dividing them from each other. The chasm kept people from crossing over from one side to the other side. In other words, death brought finality to one’s eternity. There are no “second chances” for repentance once someone died. Jesus was making the point in this parable that the fate of each person’s soul was sealed once death took place. Though we know from yesterday’s devotion that the rich man did not have a desire to repent, Jesus wanted everyone to know that this would never be an option after death. Each person must decide this side of death whom they will serve.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about death and the outcome for each soul for eternity? 2. Who will you share Christ with this week in order to give them the chance to change their soul’s final destiny?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Today we begin our journey through the parable of “The Rich Man and Lazarus.” We know our Lord Jesus Christ used parables as incredible teaching tools and our Lord has a lot to teach us through this parable as well. Our Lord introduces the rich man as a person who loved to dress up in the finest clothing possible. Jesus said it like this in L...

Day 2

We read today that both Lazarus and the rich man died. Lazarus was taken to Abraham’s bosom, and the rich man went to Hades. Before our Lord Jesus Christ's crucifixion, all dead souls went to the same place, but this place was divided into two areas and was separated by a large chasm. One area, in Hebrew, was called Sheol and in Greek, it was...

Day 4

As we know, the rich man had already made a request to Abraham to hopefully receive some relief from his torment and agony. The rich man’s request was denied. Now, we might think that this was a legitimate request at first glance. But what the rich man’s request indeed reveals to us was that even in physical death, the rich man’s heart never ...

Day 5

What our Lord Jesus Christ does for us today is fantastic. As we read Luke 16:29, we see the response of Abraham to the rich man. From yesterday’s devotion, we know the rich man wanted Abraham to send Lazarus back from the dead to be able to tell the rich man’s five brothers to repent of their sin. Abraham’s response, as Jesus shares in this ...

Day 6

As we read Luke 16:30-31, we find that the rich man did not like the answer he received from Abraham. As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, Abraham had told the rich man that what the rich man’s five brothers had from what was written in the Old Testament was more than enough to lead the rich man’s five brothers to the point of repentance. But t...
