Day 6

Scripture to Read: Ephesians 2:10

God has designed us, in Christ, to do the works He has already prepared for us to do. As we think about the parable in Luke 13:18-21, if our Lord shared that parable so we would understand that His Kingdom was going to grow exponentially, then He did not want us to miss our part in that growth process. Ephesians 2:10 is a very familiar verse to those who have been Christians for a long time. We know God has created us for good works. The question we must ask ourselves is this, “Am I walking in the good works God has laid out for me to do?” God has invited every believer to be a part of growing His Kingdom for His glory. The good news is that we are not alone in accomplishing the works God has for us to do. We find in Philippians 2:13 that God, through His Holy Spirit in us, is at work in us to carry out His work and will for His pleasure. We also find in Titus 2:14 that Christ Jesus gave Himself for us, not only to redeem us but that we, in turn, would be passionately devoted to carrying out the good deeds He has for us to do. One of those good deeds is that we should be making disciples. Growth in God’s Kingdom is about our personal maturity in Him but also sharing Him with others so they can be set free from sin and mature and grow in Him too.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about His growth plan for you and His church? 2. How are you maturing in Christ and how are you helping others to do the same?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

As we walk through God’s Word this week, we will unpack what God is teaching us. As we read Luke 13:18-29, some commentaries say that this parable is all about the corruption that infiltrates the church, then others say that Jesus is describing the growth and incredible influence of His church. As we read Luke 13:10-17, we see that Jesus had ...

Day 2

Today we focus on Luke 13:20-21. Like yesterday’s devotion, we see that commentators differ on what they think Jesus was communicating. Most commentators see the leaven as a beautiful picture of the kingdom of God working its way through the whole world. But other commentators say that since leaven is often used as a picture of sin and corrup...

Day 3

As we saw in the first two devotions this week, commentators on Luke 13:18-21 disagree on whether the parables represent the negative influence that will infiltrate the church or the growth of the church itself. Negative influence has been within the church since Christ’s church began. As we read Acts 4:36-37, we find Barnabas introduced. Thi...

Day 4

As we continue examining how the church is infiltrated with people with ill intentions, today we focus on 3 John. As God led John to write to Gaius, God used John to encourage Gaius and, of course, all other believers who were walking in God’s Truth. Gaius, and many other believers in their local church, helped and supported the missionaries ...

Day 5

God wants us to be aware that there are those who seek to lead people away from God’s Truth and believe the lies of this world. If Jesus, in Luke 13:18-21, was warning against those who would bring problems within the church, then we must heed the warning. Any time God is miraculously working, the spiritual forces of darkness are also working...

Day 7

As we finish this week, we have seen how God has created us to help multiply His Kingdom for His glory. Today we find the godly principle that God will multiply His seed of righteousness through us as we serve Him. We must remember that if someone does not invest daily in their walk with our Lord, that person will not have much to reap in and...
