Day 1

Scripture to Read: John 3:1–2

As God the Holy Spirit led John to write His Word, He made sure that He included Jesus’ interaction with Nicodemus. We read in John 3:1–2, Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; 2 this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” We see here in God’s Word that Nicodemus came to Jesus looking for answers. But we also know that he came to Jesus by night. Nicodemus did this because of his fear of the other Pharisees seeing him with Jesus. Nicodemus’ problem was that he was fearful of his peers. If we’re not careful, we can fall into the same trap instead of being bold about who Christ is and what He is doing in our lives. We must guard against fearing man over God (Galatians 1:10, 1 Thessalonians 2:4). We also see that Nicodemus recognized Jesus as coming from God. Still, Nicodemus never says that he knows that Jesus is God. Many today will say that Jesus was a good man, a prophet, a leader, and many other kind things about Him, but they do not see Him as the One True God, King, Creator, Master, and Lord. We, as Christians, know Him as our Lord but we must live that way as well, for even the demons know Him (James 2:19, Mark 1:23–24), but they are not with Him.

Challenge & Application

• What was Nicodemus struggling with that we must guard against at all costs? • How does your life show others that Christ is the Lord of every area of your life?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Jesus wasted no time getting right to the heart of Nicodemus’ problem. We read in John 3:3–8, Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born...

Day 3

Jesus did not let Nicodemus’ unbelief stop Him from challenging Nicodemus to the truth that he would have already known. We read in John 3:9–11, Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what...

Day 4

Jesus continued to challenge Nicodemus, as we read in John 3:12–15, “If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. 14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be ...

Day 5

We know that the fullness of God’s love was revealed in Christ our Lord. The Scripture we first read today is so familiar that often we pass by it too quickly. We read in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” God’s greatest demonstrati...

Day 6

What many people miss when it comes to Christ our Lord is what Jesus shared about Himself in John 3:17, “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” Jesus was sent to save the world and not to judge it. So many lost people over the last two thousand years have only seen God a...

Day 7

Since Christ did not come to judge the world but to save the world through His death, burial, and resurrection, it’s no wonder why God judges those who choose His judgment over His salvation. Jesus said in John 3:18–21, “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the n...
