Day 7

Scripture to Read: John 1:47–51

Nathanael made the decision to follow Phillip to meet Jesus. We read what happened in John 47–51, Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and *said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael *said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.” 50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And He *said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” Jesus gave Nathanael a compliment and then revealed to him that He was the Messiah prophesied about in the Old Testament. Nathanael’s response revealed two things for Nathanael about Jesus. Nathanael said, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.” “Son of God” described Jesus’ relationship to God the Father and “King of Israel” identified Jesus as Messiah and King. Nathanael knew what Phillip had told him was true. Jesus let Nathanael know that he would see even greater things. Jesus confirmed for Nathanael that He was the bridge between God the Father and man, the bridge between heaven and earth. There is no other way than Christ and that is why we must share Him.

Challenge & Application

• What did Jesus do to show Nathanael that He was the Christ, the One True Messiah? • How did Christ first reveal Himself to you so that you knew you must surrender to Him as Lord?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the only One worthy of following. Though there are many people in this life that we look up to, no one is more worthy of following than Christ our Lord. To be Christ’s disciple means to be one of His followers. Disciple means “follower, believer, student, protege," so we must choose to follow the One True Lamb of God....

Day 2

The two men who started following Jesus were immediately questioned by Jesus. We read in John 1:38, “And Jesus turned and saw them following, and *said to them, ‘What do you seek?’ They said to Him, ‘Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?’” Jesus challenged these two young men to examine their hearts and ask themselves...

Day 3

Jesus knew these two men who had been disciples of John the Baptist were ready to follow Him. Jesus’ response to these two men is still the same today for anyone who is willing to surrender to Him as Lord. We read in John 1:39, “He *said to them, ‘Come, and you will see.’ So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him tha...

Day 4

The Apostle John is God’s instrument as He uses John to write the Gospel of John. Day 5

The Good News, better known to Christians as “the Gospel,” is what God has given us through our Lord Jesus Christ. Andrew went to Simon Peter and told him about Jesus and then he went one step further. We read in John 1:42, “He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas’ (whi...

Day 6

Jesus continued to call His disciples to Himself. We read in John 1:43–46, The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He *found Philip. And Jesus *said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also ...
