Scripture to Read: John 1:42
The Good News, better known to Christians as “the Gospel,” is what God has given us through our Lord Jesus Christ. Andrew went to Simon Peter and told him about Jesus and then he went one step further. We read in John 1:42, “He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas’ (which is translated Peter).” Andrew knew that He had found the Messiah, and though telling Simon Peter about it was good, it was not good enough for Andrew. He knew he needed to take his brother with him to meet Jesus. Though we do not have our Lord Jesus with us here in the flesh, we do have Him dwelling in us through His Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19–20). So, as we introduce people to Christ, we must show them who Christ is by how we live our lives. We’re told in many different Scriptures that we are to live our lives as imitators of God, being perfect as our Father is perfect, being merciful like Him (Matthew 5:48, Luke 6:36, Ephesians 5:1, Ephesians 4:32), and so on. Our lives must be lived so that others can see Christ through us. Then, as we walk with Christ, we must lead others to know Him and walk with Christ as we do. That is why God led Paul to say in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.” We must be the example.
Challenge & Application
• How did God use Andrew’s example to challenge you today?
• How can you set the right example for others so they see Christ in you?
