Day 7

Scripture to Read: John 13:27–30

Jesus displayed His love for Judas by washing his feet and treating him as an honored guest, but Judas’ heart was unrepentant. We read in John 13:27, After the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Therefore Jesus *said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” Jesus had given Judas a final chance to turn away from his sin, but he chose not to do so. Judas decided to follow his fleshly desires and it opened the door for Satan to enter him and use him to betray Jesus. Satan had already planted the seed in Judas’ heart to betray Jesus, for we read in John 13:2, During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him. But Judas was the one who refused the love of Jesus, therefore sealing his fate. God tells us what lost people are like in Ephesians 4:17–19, walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. Note that lost people “give themselves over” to their fleshly desires and are unrepentant. We read in John 13:28–30 that the disciple still didn’t know Judas was the betrayer, but Jesus knew, and though He grieved for him, Judas had sealed his fate. We must love the lost like Jesus, never giving up on them.

Challenge & Application

• What did Jesus show to Judas and why did He never give up on Him? • How must we treat the lost people in our lives and how do we show them the love of Christ?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Jesus also told the disciples in John 13:19, “From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He.” Jesus did not want His disciples to doubt that He was the promised Messiah foretold through the Old Testament Scriptures. Jesus knew that His mock trial and His crucifixion would take p...

Jesus then added this statement as He spoke to His disciples in John 13:20, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.” Remember, at this point, Judas is still sitting in the upper room with the other eleven disciples. Jesus had just told them in John 13:20 that H...

Day 4

Jesus was preparing His disciples for His imminent crucifixion, but the disciples were still clueless about what would happen even though Jesus did all He could to get them ready. So, we read in John 13:21, When Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray ...

Day 5

Jesus telling the disciples that one of them would betray Him revealed again His omniscience, that He knew everything. However, the disciples still had no idea who would betray Jesus—this shows how Jesus never treated Judas differently than He had the other eleven. We read in John 13:22, The disciples began looking at one another, at a loss t...

Day 6

After John asked Jesus who would betray Him, Jesus responded in John 13:26, Jesus then *answered, “That is the one for whom I shall dip the morsel and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the morsel, He *took and *gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. For us reading this Scripture, we would think that it was obvious that Judas was th...
