Scripture to Read: John 13:20
Jesus then added this statement as He spoke to His disciples in John 13:20, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.” Remember, at this point, Judas is still sitting in the upper room with the other eleven disciples. Jesus had just told them in John 13:20 that His work was not yet complete; therefore, He would send His messengers into the world to tell others that He is the Christ/Messiah. In other words, His ministry would continue through those who surrender their lives to Him. The disciples needed to hear this; though they didn’t know why at that very moment, they would know why after Jesus was raised from the dead. God continues His work through all of His children—that is why God tells us in Ephesians 2:10, For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. We have daily good works to fulfill that God has prepared for us to walk in—that is why we must be in constant fellowship with our Lord each day so that we are aware that He is using us to carry out His good works. God also tells us in Philippians 2:13, for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. So, God lives in us through His Holy Spirit to carry out His perfect will each day—let’s not miss it.
Challenge & Application
• Why do we need to understand that we are now the messengers of Christ in this lost world?
• Why should we be daily aware of God’s plan for our lives?
