Scripture to Read: John 10:19–21
When Jesus’s Word is shared, we are guaranteed two things, the first being that lives will be changed because His Word is that powerful, and the second being that others will be antagonistic toward His Word because His Word cuts to the heart (Hebrews 4:12). As stated in John 10:19–21, “A division occurred again among the Jews because of these words. 20 Many of them were saying, “He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?” 21 Others were saying, “These are not the sayings of one demon-possessed. A demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?”” Some thought Jesus was demon-possessed. Remember how the enemy works, 2 Corinthians 4:3–4, And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Some were blinded to the beauty, majesty, and glory of Christ and His Word because of their hardened hearts and blind eyes, but others knew that a blind man being healed was the work of God. Those people’s hearts were ready to see God and His handiwork, for they had long awaited the coming of their Messiah. The same is true today; as God’s Word is spoken, people are either blind and deaf to it or their hearts are ready to receive it and to be changed and nourished by it—may we always be the latter.
Challenge & Application
• What was the problem with those who thought Jesus was demon-possessed?
• Why were some able to see that the healing of the blind man was of God?
