Scripture to Read: Hebrews 9:6-7
As we know, the first description of the
tabernacle is in Exodus 25, 26, and 27. But, there are
about 50 chapters in the Old Testament that give reference
to and a description of the tabernacle. The tabernacle
was the center of Jewish worship under the old
covenant. We know from Hebrews 8:5 that the design
of the tabernacle and its worship was not some human
invention, but God revealed everything in great detail
to Moses on Mount Sinai. Once the tabernacle was
built, and everything for the tabernacle was made and
placed in the tabernacle, the priests then continually
worshipped God by offering sacrifices, gifts, and offerings
for themselves and the people of Israel. We must
know that the priests were offering sacrifices, gifts, and
offerings to God, 24 hours a day, seven days a week; so,
priests were always serving in the tabernacle to keep
the nation of Israel in right relationship with God Almighty.
But, the Holy of Holies was only entered once
per year and could only be entered by the high priest.
The high priest ALWAYS brought a blood sacrifice to offer
God for his sins and the sins of the people. The offering
brought to God by the high priest had to be a blood
sacrifice because the result of sin is always death (Romans
6:23; James 1:14-15). The blood of our Lord Jesus
Christ, though, was God the Father’s Perfect Sacrifice,
and that is why we can worship God freely every day.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about your freedom
to worship Him?
2. Who will you share with this week about how to
freely worship God every day?
