Scripture to Read: Hebrews 10:32-39
Today we focus on the Jewish Christians
the letter of Hebrews was first written to and the suffering
they were going through. God wants us to understand
that suffering in this life is going to happen if we are truly
pursuing an intimate daily fellowship with our Lord Jesus
Christ and His Word. God reminds us again and again that
tests, trials, and tribulations are going to be a part of this
life if we’re living for our Lord Jesus Christ (James 1:2-4; 1
Peter 4:12-16; 1 John 3:13). These Jewish Christians were
going through some major suffering because they had
chosen to follow Christ and His Word. Some of the sufferings
these Jewish Christians faced were public insults and
distress. Some of the sufferings came from trying to help
others who were facing the same type of ridicule, beatings,
etc. These Jewish Christians also suffered because
they showed sympathy and incredible concern for those
who had been put in jail for their faith in Christ. But these
Jewish Christians initially, joyfully accepted the unfair
seizure of their belongings and property. How could they
go through such suffering with joy and contentment? Because
they knew they had a better home, an everlasting
residence prepared for them in heaven. But, because of
their current sufferings they were facing, they were ready
to give up and give in. God used the writer of Hebrews to
lovingly encourage these Christians to endure, knowing
the promises of God would be received one day.
Challenge & Application
1. What did you learn about how you should face suffering
in this life? Where should your hope and joy be
found each day?
2. Who needs to hear this message of hope and joy and
when will you share this with them?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
