Scripture to Read: Hebrews 10:30-31
As we continue our walk through Hebrews
10, we see the continuation from yesterday’s devotion
about God’s wrath being upon those who refuse
to surrender to Christ as Lord and Savior. God led the
writer of Hebrews to quote from Deuteronomy 32:35-36
in Hebrews 10:30. In Deuteronomy 32, Moses was led
by God to lay out for the people of Israel why they must
obey God as they prepared to enter the promised land.
God made sure the people of Israel knew that disobedience
to Him and His commands would bring about His
wrath and judgment. What we see today in Hebrews
10:30 is the same reason why we must obey God and
walk in obedience to His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. We
may not like to think of God as a God of judgment, but
God is just as much a God of judgment as He is a God
of grace and mercy. We need to thank God the Father
daily for His grace and mercy. We also need to thank
God the Father for pouring out His judgment and wrath
upon our Lord Jesus Christ so that we would not receive
God’s judgment and wrath. Then God led the writer of
Hebrews to take it one step further to warn us, in Hebrews
10:31, how terrifying it is to incur the judgment
and wrath from Him. God does not want anyone to
experience His judgment and wrath; that is why Christ
came and took it upon Himself, so no one would have to
suffer God’s wrath.
Challenge & Application
1. What did you learn today about God’s judgment and
wrath?
2. Who needs to hear the Good News that Christ took
on all of God’s judgment and wrath for them? When
will you share this Good News with them?
