Scripture to Read: Genesis 29:6-12
God works in our lives even in the smallest of details so that we can rest and trust Him no matter what we may face in this life. God never promised us that this life would be easy, but He did promise us that we would face tests and trials to grow our faith in Him (James 1:2-4). As Jacob talked with the shepherds about Laban and Laban’s family, we read that the shepherds even knew Rachel and pointed her out to Jacob as she approached the well (Genesis 29:6). As soon as Jacob saw Rachel, he immediately moved the stone off the well so she could water her flocks. We can only guess why Jacob was so motivated to help Rachel at this point in Scripture. But we will find out a little later in Scripture that Rachel was beautiful and that Jacob wanted her for his wife. It’s interesting that God had Moses record Jacobs reaction to Rachel. Jacob was so overcome by Rachel that he kissed her and wept. We can only guess that he was overjoyed that God had led him to his mother's family and again that he is taken back by Rachel's beauty. Then Jacob tells Rachel who he was and about his family and Rachel runs to tell Laban, her father (Rebekah's brother, Jacob's uncle). God had connected Jacob with Rebekah's family. At first, in what may have seemed like a hopeless situation, we see how God was leading Jacob exactly where He wanted him.
