Scripture to Read: Genesis 28:10-17
Today we come back to Jacob as we read Genesis 28:10-17. Jacob then leaves Beersheba, where he had lived with Isaac, Rebekah, Esau, and the rest of their people and he headed to Haran, where Rebekah’s brother Laban lived. As Jacob journeyed, he found a place to sleep for the night. As we read, we see that Jacob had an encounter with our Lord through a dream. God shares with Jacob that the same promise God had given to Abraham and Isaac was also for him and his descendants. God clarifies for Jacob who He is so that Jacob has no doubt who is speaking to him in His dream. God says, in Genesis 28:13, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac.” Then God tells Jacob all that he will inherit and that his “offspring shall be like the dust of the earth” (Genesis 28:14). God also gives Jacob an incredible promise in Genesis 28:15, “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” God’s promise to Jacob is that He will be with him as God fulfills His promise to him. When Jacob woke up, he was in AWE of God and noted it so in verse 17. We have an even greater promise from God through our Lord Jesus Christ, for He lives in us through His Holy Spirit, ALWAYS!
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you about His promise to Jacob, which was also the promise to Abraham and Isaac?
2. What is the great promise all believers have from God the Father, through Christ, and how has that promise changed you?
