Day 2

Scripture to Read: Genesis 28:3-5

As we continue to walk through Genesis 28, we find that even though the circumstances that led to Isaac sending Jacob away were not part of God’s perfect plan, it was still crucial that Jacob NOT marry a Canaanite woman. Jacob was not to marry a Canaanite because the Canaanites did not worship the one true God. God had already chosen Jacob as the one to inherit the birthright and carry on the seed of our Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ. To marry a Canaanite woman was not what God had planned for Jacob. In Genesis 28:3-4, God had Isaac affirm the blessing Isaac had been deceived into giving Jacob earlier. Here is what Isaac spoke over Jacob in Genesis 28:3-4, God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. 4 May He give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham!” We do not know whether Isaac knew it or not, but Isaac was submitting to God’s perfect will. Remember, God shared with Rebekah His perfect plan for Jacob and Esau back in Genesis 25:22-23. God had made it clear to Rebekah that Jacob would be the one to carry on His promise to Abraham. God’s perfect will can never be changed, even when mankind’s sinful choices seem to get in the way. We can rest in our Lord and His promises, for His promises will be fulfilled no matter what.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about His plan for Jacob and how He used Isaac to affirm His plan? How do you see God working His plan in your life? 2. How are you seeking God and His Word each day so that you do not miss what He has for you to walk in each day?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 3

Today we come back to examine Esau’s life a little more. Esau struggled within himself because he knew Isaac had blessed Jacob willingly. Esau also knew Isaac sent Jacob away to find a wife in Paddan-aram, the home of Rebekah’s family. We see all of this clearly in Genesis 28:6. Esau was a broken man due to his sinful choices. Esau was not a ...

Day 6

We saw in yesterday’s devotion how God revealed to Jacob His promise that He first revealed to Abraham, Jacob’s grandfather. God appeared to Jacob in a dream, and again, as we saw yesterday when Jacob awoke, he was in awe of God and what God had spoken to him. Jacob was so in awe of God that he took the stone he slept on the night before, set...

Day 7

We close this week with an examination of Jacob’s prayer to God in Genesis 28:20-22. As we examine Jacob’s prayer, we see that Jacob was not submitted to God, but was making his deal with God. Jacob was still trying to control his destiny, just like he and Rebekah had done with the deception of Issac. In the next phase of Jacob’s life, though...
