Scripture to Read: Genesis 28:1-2
As we begin our journey through Genesis 28 this week, be sure and pray each day for God to give you the discernment you need from Him. Also, ask Him not to let you miss anything He is teaching you so you can apply what He teaches you to your daily life. As a bit of a reminder of where God has taken us, in Genesis 26:34, God revealed to us Esau’s rebellious heart through who Esau chose to marry and how Esau’s choice broke his mother Rebekah’s heart. Then God showed us, in Genesis 27, how Rebekah and Jacob deceived Isaac into giving Jacob the first blessing; how Esau’s anger was so intense that he vowed to kill Jacob once Isaac died; that Rebekah found out about Esau’s plan to kill Jacob, so she shared with Isaac her deep hate for the Hittite women (speaking of Esau’s wives); and how she did NOT want Jacob making the same bad choice. Of course, Rebekah’s real concern was that she was fearful for Jacob’s life. Also, remember that since Rebekah and Jacob carried out their deceptive plan, the consequences of their deception brought this major division into their family, and that was why Jacob had to run for his life. So, now we come to Genesis 28:1-2, where we see that Issac listened to Rebekah and called Jacob to himself. Isaac told Jacob he must go to Laban’s, his uncle, and find a wife from Laban’s family. Sinful choices always bring death, especially to having right relationships with others.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today through the sinful choices of Esau, as well as the sinful choices of Rebekah and Jacob?
2. How are you guarding your heart each day to walk in obedience to our Lord and His Word and not your feelings?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
