Scripture to Read: Genesis 21:4-7
After Isaac was born, Abraham had to continue to obey the commands of God. As God had made the command about circumcision, in Genesis 17:10-12, Abraham made sure to circumcise Isaac on the eighth day. What’s interesting is the eighth day has great significance in the safety of the child. God knows how He created us and every minute detail in our human body. God knows that our human body has two blood-clotting elements. One is called Vitamin K. Vitamin K is not formed in the human body until somewhere around the 5th to 7th day in a newborn child. Also, God knows that Vitamin K peaks in a newborn on the eighth day. The second clotting element God has given us is called Prothrombin. Prothrombin peaks in the human body at 110% on the eighth day, just before leveling off at 100% of normal. Now, if vitamin K were not present when circumcised, the baby boy would bleed to death. But, what about today? Today, when a baby boy is circumcised, the doctor gives him vitamin K to help with the blood-clotting process. God always provides what we need for our protection and health. The miracle of Isaac being born brought joyous laughter to Sarah. Remember, Sarah had laughed in disbelief of God’s promise in Genesis 18:12-15. But at this point, Sarah laughed with joy because God had fulfilled His promise. It’s interesting to note, too, that Isaac’s name means “one who laughs.” God’s fulfillment of His promise to Abraham and Sarah is just one of many fulfillments of His promises.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about walking in His commands, even when you may not have full understanding of the “why”?
2. How are you walking in God’s commands each day and helping others to do the same?
