Scripture to Read: Genesis 21:1-3
God has been speaking to us, as He always does, through His miraculous Word. We’ve been walking through Genesis and this week, we get to see what God has for us in Genesis 21 & 22. Up to this point in Genesis, God has affirmed His covenant and promise to Abraham several times. God has spoken His promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3; Genesis 15:1-6; Genesis 17:1-14; Genesis 17:15-21; and Genesis 18:9-10. What a great reminder to us that God does repeat Himself throughout His Word. God repeats Himself because we, as His children, are so quick to forget His marvelous promises and all we obtain through His promises. Even God led Peter to write this in 2 Peter 1:12, Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. So, we all need constant reminders from God. Now, back in Genesis 15, Abraham believed God and God credited it to him as righteousness for this is what God’s Word says in Genesis 15:6, And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. Just like Abraham, the righteousness within us is for one reason only - we have to believe in Christ (trust in Christ, rely on Christ, cling to Christ) with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength, knowing that He is God and that there is no other God besides Him. Abraham believed, but Abraham still struggled in his belief as we’ll see tomorrow.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about His constant reminders in His Word and about Abraham’s faith and your faith being the same?
2. How are you believing in our Lord Jesus Christ and His promises each day?
