Scripture to Read: Genesis 1:2-5
In the beginning, the earth had no shape and there was nothing but darkness. We read in Genesis 1:2, The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Incredibly, in the middle of absolute darkness, God created light and the light shone brightly, cutting through the darkness. God simply said, in Genesis 1:3,“ Let there be light,” and there was light. God’s power was on full display and all God had to do was speak. In Hebrews 4:12, God gives us an awesome reminder of how powerful His Word is: For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. God is perfect wisdom and so after He speaks and light comes forth, God looks at the light and calls it good. Then God separates the light and the darkness and names them in verse 5, God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. God gave us the first morning and the first evening of the very first day. In absolute simplicity, we see a very complex world being developed in Genesis 1 in a span of 6 days. This incredible creation was all made possible by the powerful spoken Word of God. To try and imagine the majesty, glory, and wonder of God and His powerful spoken Word is far beyond our comprehension.
