Scripture to Read: Genesis 1:1
We begin this new series in the book of Genesis. The word “genesis” means “origin” or “beginning.” We know that God used Moses to write Genesis and the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Genesis was first written to the people of Israel. It is important for us to understand why Israel would need all of this information that is written in Genesis. The answer is pretty simple. The people of Israel, just like us, needed constant reminders from God as to who He is, what He has done, what He is doing, and that He is ALL powerful and sovereign over EVERYTHING. Genesis 1:1 through Genesis 2:3 is known by most as the “Creation Account.” The main subject of ALL of history is God! From Genesis 1:1, we know God began time for mankind around 6,000 years ago. We also know that God is the architect, composer, and navigator over EVERYTHING. God has ALWAYS existed as Father, Son, and Spirit. God is self-sufficient and self-sustaining, so He needs nothing. God is Wisdom and Power, and nothing compares with Him. All we know and see came to be by God’s creative power. Everything is His and directly under His rule. God has always existed, so there is no beginning with Him and there is no end. That is why God says of Himself in Revelation 1:8, Revelation 21:6, and Revelation 22:13, “I am the Alpha and the Omega.” We serve an awesome God, and may we never forget that we are His creation for His purpose and His good pleasure.
