Day 1

Scripture to Read: Genesis 1:1

We begin this new series in the book of Genesis. The word “genesis” means “origin” or “beginning.” We know that God used Moses to write Genesis and the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Genesis was first written to the people of Israel. It is important for us to understand why Israel would need all of this information that is written in Genesis. The answer is pretty simple. The people of Israel, just like us, needed constant reminders from God as to who He is, what He has done, what He is doing, and that He is ALL powerful and sovereign over EVERYTHING. Genesis 1:1 through Genesis 2:3 is known by most as the “Creation Account.” The main subject of ALL of history is God! From Genesis 1:1, we know God began time for mankind around 6,000 years ago. We also know that God is the architect, composer, and navigator over EVERYTHING. God has ALWAYS existed as Father, Son, and Spirit. God is self-sufficient and self-sustaining, so He needs nothing. God is Wisdom and Power, and nothing compares with Him. All we know and see came to be by God’s creative power. Everything is His and directly under His rule. God has always existed, so there is no beginning with Him and there is no end. That is why God says of Himself in Revelation 1:8, Revelation 21:6, and Revelation 22:13, “I am the Alpha and the Omega.” We serve an awesome God, and may we never forget that we are His creation for His purpose and His good pleasure.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about Who He is and what He has done in creation? 2. How does knowing how powerful God is affect your daily fellowship with Him and your trust in Him?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

In the beginning, the earth had no shape and there was nothing but darkness. We read in Genesis 1:2, The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Incredibly, in the middle of absolute darkness, God created light and the light shone brightly, cu...

Day 3

We know, or we should know, that creation had a precise order and structure. The idea that creation came to exist merely by random events is simply not logical. The first three days of creation were foundational for sustaining everything that would be created the last three days. As we saw yesterday, on Day 1 God created light. We do not know...

Day 4

As we saw yesterday, there was no death in this world before Adam’s sin. Many struggle with the fact that dinosaurs and man lived at the same time. But when we examine God’s Word, we can see that there would have been no problem with dinosaurs and man existing at the same time. We will unpack this truth as we continue to examine God’s origina...

Day 5

As we began to look yesterday at how “good” God’s original creation was, it is easy to see that man and animal lived in perfect harmony for a while. God created a holy foundation reflecting His own nature. As we know, God ALONE is Good and Holy. God declares His holiness throughout His Word and 1 John 1:5 is a great example, for God’s Word sa...

Day 6

So, from what God taught us yesterday, we know that dinosaurs and all other animals, including man, were created as herbivores in God’s original creation. Nothing in God’s original creation ate meat. Also, we know from reading Genesis that man and animals alike lived a long time. Sin definitely brought death to this world, but the effects of ...

Day 7

One other phrase God used in His “Creation Account” is the phrase, …each according to its kind” or “…according to their kinds.” We find this phrase used in Genesis 1:11, 12, 21, 24, and 25. Why is this so important? Because God wanted us to know that all of the creatures He created were made in the likeness of “its own kind.” But, when it com...
