Scripture to Read: Exodus 6:10–27
According to Exodus 6:9, the sons of Israel did not listen to Moses as he spoke God’s Words to them. But God continued to challenge Moses, and as we read Exodus 6:11, God told Moses, “Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the sons of Israel go out of his land.” Moses gives a little pushback and says to God in Exodus 6:12, “Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me; how then will Pharaoh listen to me, for I am unskilled in speech?” Moses went back to what he had said to God on Mount Sinai in Exodus 4, that he was not skilled in speaking. If we’re not careful, we miss how God showed Moses His abundant grace. God did not get angry with Moses, but according to Exodus 6:13, “Then the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and gave them a charge to the sons of Israel and to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt.” Moses’ doubts or excuses did not deter God; God just included Aaron in all He said to Moses. God is never hindered by our doubts and fears, either. God will hold us accountable to His call upon our lives, and He will accomplish His works through us (Ephesians 2:10). In Exodus 6:14–25, God had Moses include “the heads of their fathers’ households.” God did this to show us Aaron and Moses’ relatives—what a great reminder that God cares about every detail.
Challenge & Application
· In what ways has God called you to serve Him, and what excuses have you used due to weaknesses you see?
· How has God continued to challenge and encourage you to walk in obedience to Him despite your weaknesses?
