Day 4

Scripture to Read: Exodus 5:19–23, 6:1

God is always working in our lives, even when our circumstances do not make sense to us (Philippians 2:13). God had made it clear to Moses in Exodus 3:19 that the only way Pharaoh would release the Israelites from under his reign would be by “compulsion.” A quick side note: We’ll see later in Exodus how God used His miracles and plagues to break Pharaoh. But Pharaoh's brokenness does not lead to repentance. Pharaoh's brokenness will only seek temporary relief from loss. Moses and Aaron knew all God had told them, as did the elders of Israel, for “Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had spoken to Moses. He then performed the signs in the sight of the people” (Exodus 4:29–30). But Moses, Aaron, and the elders of Israel allowed the temporary hard times to cause them to forget what God had told them. The foremen of Israel walked away from their meeting with Pharaoh knowing they were in trouble. Moses and Aaron had waited for them, and the foremen wanted God to judge Moses and Aaron (Exodus 5:21). Then Moses returned to talk to the Lord and started asking Him the “why” questions, as if Moses did not have a clue (Exodus 5:22–23). In Exodus 6, God responded to Moses and reminded Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for under compulsion he will let them go, and under compulsion he will drive them out of his land.” God reminded Moses that Pharaoh must be broken and that it would take time.

Challenge & Application

· As a reminder of all God has done for you in Christ, take a few minutes and list out His promises that you recall. · How have these promises carried you through the tests and trials of life, and how have you encouraged others through them?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We will be covering a lot this week, and God will use it to penetrate our hearts with His Truth to continue to grow us in our fellowship with Him and His Word. When we ended Exodus 4, Moses was on his way back to Egypt to be used by God, along with his brother Aaron, to eventually get the Israelites set free from the Egyptian's rule and reign...

Day 2

We read in Exodus 5:3–9 today what Moses and Aaron share with Pharaoh, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us.” They also told Pharaoh that if they were not allowed to go and worship God and offer a sacrifice to Him, God would “fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword.” Remember, God is the one who gave Moses and Aaron the words to sha...

Day 3

As we continue to walk through Exodus 5, we read how the taskmasters and their foremen went and told the Israelites that Pharaoh said, ‘I am not going to give you any straw. 11 You go and get straw for yourselves wherever you can find it, but none of your labor will be reduced.’” First, we see how the Israelites scattered quickly throughout E...

Day 5

Today, we continue with God’s response to Moses in Exodus 6:2–13. God reminded Moses in Exodus 6:2, “I am the Lord.” In reminding Moses of His great name (Yahweh), God confirmed that He made covenants and kept them. God reminded Moses that He would fulfill His promise. God also told Moses He had made Himself known to the patriarchs by the sam...

Day 6

According to Exodus 6:9, the sons of Israel did not listen to Moses as he spoke God’s Words to them. But God continued to challenge Moses, and as we read Exodus 6:11, God told Moses, “Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the sons of Israel go out of his land.” Moses gives a little pushback and says to God in Exodus 6:12, “Behold, the sons of...

Day 7

At the end of Exodus 6, God reminds us that the “Aaron and Moses” He called to lead the sons of Israel out of Egypt are the same Aaron and Moses from the family line laid out in Exodus 6:14–25. Then, God had Moses repeat his weakness about being unskilled in speech in Exodus 6:28–30. Then God said to Moses, in Exodus 7:1–5, “See, I make you a...
