Scripture to Read: Exodus 28:15–29
God continued to give Moses every detail about the clothing to be made for the priests. In Exodus 28:15–29, God gave Moses all the details about the breastpiece of judgment. On this breastpiece of judgment were to be mounted four rows of stones for the twelve sons of Israel. Again, the name of each son of Israel was engraved in a precious stone. This was to signify how precious and honorable in God’s sight the nation of Israel was to Him. God says in Isaiah 43:4, “Since you are precious in My sight, since you are honored and I love you,”—God loves all His children this way, as we see in Ephesians 5:2: “and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” We are loved by our Lord Jesus Christ, who became our sacrifice and fragrant aroma to God the Father on our behalf. In several commentaries, we find, “The high priest had the names of the tribes, both on his shoulders and on his breast, which reminds us of the power and the love with which our Lord Jesus pleads for those that are His. He not only bears them up in His arms with almighty strength, but He carries them in His bosom with tender affection” (Matthew Henry’s Commentary, Benson's Commentary). We have our Great High Priest who is at our Heavenly Father’s right hand interceding for us (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25), for we are written in His book (Revelation 21:27).
Challenge & Application
· Since we are so precious to our Lord Jesus Christ, how should we live our lives for Him each day?
· How are you sharing with others what Christ has done for you and the changes He continues to make in you?
