Day 7

Scripture to Read: Colossians 1:13–14

God, in the fullness of His grace, mercy, and love, through Christ, has done “far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,” (Ephesians 3:20). We see the fullness of His beautiful gift to us as we read this in Colossians 1:13–14, “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” For every person (past, present, and future) who surrenders to Christ as Lord and Savior is given the most precious gift imaginable. God the Father, through Christ our Lord, rescues every follower of Christ from the “domain of darkness.” When we were lost in our sin, we had no clue that we were being held captive in this “domain of darkness.” God describes those who are lost in their sin this way in 2 Timothy 2:26: “they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.” Until lost people “come to their senses,” they don’t know they are in bondage to a “domain of darkness” and are being “held captive” to do the will of the devil and the spiritual forces of wickedness (Ephesians 6:12). God didn’t just rescue us, but He transferred us into the Kingdom of His beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. God owns every believer in Christ, for every believer is a member of His family, for our sins are paid for and our forgiveness is complete.

Day 1

In each letter that God led Paul to write to the churches in Paul’s day, each letter starts with the introduction of the writer. Note that I said “writer” and not “author,” because God is THE Author of all 66 books in His Holy Word. So, as God led Paul to write His Word, we read in Colossians 1:1–2, “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the wi...

Day 2

God had given Paul an incredible ministry, as God used Paul to write much of His Word in the New Testament. God used Paul to write words of rebuke as well as words of affirmation and encouragement. God used Paul to write words of warning and give God’s commands. We read in Colossians 1:3, “We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus C...

Day 3

God used Paul to encourage the believers in Colossae by telling them in Colossians 1:4 that “since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints,” that was one of the reasons Paul was praying for them. God knew how He was using the believers in Colossae for ministry and that their faith in Christ was ev...

Day 4

It’s wonderful to know all that Christ has done for us, and His Gospel is what we ought to be sharing with everyone. God reveals to us today how the Gospel came to the people of Colossae and the transformation that occurred in them because they did not just hear the Gospel but they fully trusted in Christ as their Lord and Savior. We read in ...

Day 5

God led Paul to return to sharing how he prayed for the believers in Colossae. With everything God had revealed to Paul through Epaphras about the Christians in Colossae, Paul was moved to pray for them. We read in Colossians 1:9, “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may b...

Day 6

There was a great reason God led Paul to pray for the Christians in Colossae to be “filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” We find the answer as we read Colossians 1:10–12, “so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and incre...
