Scripture to Read: Colossians 1:9
God led Paul to return to sharing how he prayed for the believers in Colossae. With everything God had revealed to Paul through Epaphras about the Christians in Colossae, Paul was moved to pray for them. We read in Colossians 1:9, “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” What God led Paul to pray is what we ought to pray for each other as Christians every day as well. God had Paul pray that every believer would be filled with the full knowledge of God’s will, and the way to be filled with His will is through spiritual wisdom. Spiritual wisdom is the insight into God’s purposes. Remember, these believers in Colossae did not have the New Testament yet for it was literally being written during their lifetime. Paul did not want these believers to miss God’s purpose for their lives. In the same way, we should so love all Christians that we don’t want any of us to miss God’s purpose for our lives each day. The beautiful news is that we have the full revelation of God through His Holy Spirit in us and we also have His complete Holy Word, the Bible. We have no excuse for not knowing what God has for us to do each day. The only reason we miss God’s purpose for us is that we choose not to read, study, memorize, and meditate on God’s Word.
Challenge & Application
Why did Paul pray that the believers in Colossae would be “filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding?”
Why should we still pray that same prayer for each other, and how do we find “the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding”?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
