Day 6

Scripture to Read: Colossians 1:10–12

There was a great reason God led Paul to pray for the Christians in Colossae to be “filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” We find the answer as we read Colossians 1:10–12, “so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.” God desires all of His children to fully obey Him daily—that is why God had Paul pray that the Christians in Colossae would be filled with God’s wisdom and understanding so they would walk daily in a manner that honored Him, that pleased Him, and that they would bear fruit for Him in every good work God had for them to do. God desires that same thing for every follower of Christ today as well. Paul was also led by God to pray that all the believers be strengthened with God’s power according to His might because that’s the only way they could achieve and walk in God’s endurance and patience and be filled with His joy. The overflow of walking with God this way is that all believers continually give thanks to the Father knowing it is He alone who has made us worthy to share in the inheritance of all God’s people (called saints).

Challenge & Application

How are we to walk each day according to Colossians 1:10 and why are we to walk this way? According to Colossians 1:11, what does God provide for us so that we can walk as He desires us to walk?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

In each letter that God led Paul to write to the churches in Paul’s day, each letter starts with the introduction of the writer. Note that I said “writer” and not “author,” because God is THE Author of all 66 books in His Holy Word. So, as God led Paul to write His Word, we read in Colossians 1:1–2, “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the wi...

Day 2

God had given Paul an incredible ministry, as God used Paul to write much of His Word in the New Testament. God used Paul to write words of rebuke as well as words of affirmation and encouragement. God used Paul to write words of warning and give God’s commands. We read in Colossians 1:3, “We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus C...

Day 3

God used Paul to encourage the believers in Colossae by telling them in Colossians 1:4 that “since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints,” that was one of the reasons Paul was praying for them. God knew how He was using the believers in Colossae for ministry and that their faith in Christ was ev...

Day 4

It’s wonderful to know all that Christ has done for us, and His Gospel is what we ought to be sharing with everyone. God reveals to us today how the Gospel came to the people of Colossae and the transformation that occurred in them because they did not just hear the Gospel but they fully trusted in Christ as their Lord and Savior. We read in ...

Day 5

God led Paul to return to sharing how he prayed for the believers in Colossae. With everything God had revealed to Paul through Epaphras about the Christians in Colossae, Paul was moved to pray for them. We read in Colossians 1:9, “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may b...

Day 7

God, in the fullness of His grace, mercy, and love, through Christ, has done “far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,” (Ephesians 3:20). We see the fullness of His beautiful gift to us as we read this in Colossians 1:13–14, “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferre...
