Scripture to Read: Acts 2:22–23
Today, we have the privilege of continuing to unpack the sermon God gave Peter to preach on the day of Pentecost. Yesterday, we saw how God used Peter to refute those who thought the disciples were drunk at 9:00 AM. Peter told the people that he and the rest of the disciples of Christ were filled with God’s Holy Spirit. God used Peter to share Joel 2 and help the people understand that Joel 2:28 was happening right before their eyes. Then in Acts 2:22–23, Peter preaches about our Lord Jesus Christ. God had Peter say, “Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— 23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.” God had Peter testify to the undeniable proof given to them by God the Father of who Jesus is through the “miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him.” God used Peter to confirm that the evidence was overwhelming. But then, God had Peter remind them that God is omniscient and knew what would happen, and His predetermined plan was carried out when they betrayed Jesus. As Peter preached to the crowd, God gave Peter incredible boldness (Ephesians 6:19–20). God desires us to share Him with His courage, but that only happens as we walk in complete submission to Him.
