Day 3

Scripture to Read: 2 Timothy 4:12-13

Just so we have a proper timeframe, the letter of 2 Timothy was written not too long before Paul’s death which occurred in AD 67. In 2 Timothy 4:12, God had Paul mention Tychicus, whom Paul had sent back to Ephesus. Tychicus had served alongside Paul in many of Paul’s missionary journeys. We find Tychicus first mentioned in Acts 20:1-4. Tychicus had been to Ephesus a few years earlier, for we read in Ephesians 6:21-22 where Paul had sent Tychicus to Ephesus to inform the believers there about Paul’s circumstances. The letter to the Ephesian believers was written around AD 60-62. We also find Tychicus mentioned in Colossians 4:7-8, where Paul had sent Tychicus to Colossae to inform the believers there about Paul’s circumstances around AD 62 when the letter of Colossians was written. Tychicus was a faithful servant of our Lord and a close companion to Paul. We need fellow believers in our lives who are willing to serve our Lord alongside us, just as Tychicus did with Paul. God would not have had Paul mention Tychicus if God was not teaching us something about being faithful servants of our Lord just like Tychicus had been. Even though Paul knew his life was drawing to a close, he asked Timothy to bring him his cloak, books, and parchments. God lets us see how Paul never stopped growing in his walk with our Lord. Paul’s books and the parchments, which were portions of the Old Testament, would have helped Paul in his daily growth and fellowship with our Lord.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about the need for godly friends in your life who are willing to serve with you and about your daily need to be in His Word, like Paul? 2. How are you currently pursuing and growing in God’s Word and in your fellowship with Him?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God allows Paul to share some personal needs as the letter of 2 Timothy is drawing to a close. God desires us to see that the apostles were just like we are today. They were fully human with the same basic needs in life that we still have and were striving to walk in obedience to our Lord. Paul asks Timothy to come to him as soon as he can. A...

Day 2

While God continues to use Paul to proclaim His Truth to Timothy and us, we read today about some people in Paul’s life that ministered to Paul. God had Paul mention that Luke was still with him. This is the same Luke that God used to write the book of Luke and the book of Acts. Luke was a physician and no doubt was an incredible asset to Pau...

Day 4

It is almost guaranteed, in our lifetime, that we will have Christian friends who will disappoint us, fail us, betray us, and choose to walk away from their fellowship with our Lord. We know this because God warns us, as believers, NOT to grieve (Ephesians 4:30), nor quench (1 Thessalonians 5:19) His Holy Spirit who dwells in us. God would no...

Day 5

From yesterday’s devotion, we saw that followers of Christ will fail us when they choose to grieve and quench the Holy Spirit living in them. In 2 Timothy 2:16, God continued to have Paul share his testimony of how no one supported Paul when he was on trial for sharing the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember, these were believers who de...

Day 6

As we consider the life we now live, we have to understand that God is in charge, always has been and always will be. We will face tests, trials, and tribulation in this life. We should never be surprised when tough times come because God promised us that we would face those tough times as a follower of His (John 15:18-19; John 16:33; John 17...

Day 7

It is hard to believe that we are at the end of our study of 1 & 2 Timothy. God has taught us so much about our fellowship with Him and how we must passionately pursue Him and His Word daily. He has taught us much about facing the tough times this life hands us each day. He has warned us about believers who will disappoint us and turn their b...
