Day 6

Scripture to Read: 2 Timothy 2:22

In yesterday’s devotion, God taught us that we must get rid of the things in our lives that dishonor Him. Today, in 2 Timothy 2:22, through Paul, God tells us what to run from and what to run toward. God first tells us to run away from anything that stimulates our youthful lusts, our fleshly desires. We all know our greatest weaknesses, so it’s evident to each of us what we need to run away from each day. We just have to make the choice to run away from these things and not give them any room in our lives. God is so awesome, though, that He also tells us then what we need to run after. God wants us to pursue righteousness. To pursue righteousness means we guard our tongues against anger, evil, gossip, back-talk, disrespect. We also do all things without grumbling or disputing (Philippians 2:14). God tells us to pursue faith. This means we must cling to God and His Word so we’re able to put out the fiery arrows our Enemy fires at us each day (Ephesians 6:16, 1 John 5:4). We’re also to pursue love, which means we choose to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We also choose to love our neighbor as ourselves. We also must pursue peace. Christ is our peace, and we must let Him and His peace rule within us (Colossians 3:15) to overcome fear and anxiety. We do all of this with other godly believers who are pursuing the same godly attributes.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about what to run from and what to run toward? 2. How are you pursuing righteousness, faith, love and peace, and who is doing this with you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

As God continues to write through Paul to Timothy and us, we find today in 2 Timothy 2:14 that we are to remind all believers of the things God has taught us so far in 2 Timothy 1 & 2. We know that as we ended yesterday’s devotion, God laid out for us that since we have died with Christ, we will most definitely live with Him. God also told us...

Day 2

Through Paul, God challenges Timothy (and of course, this always applies to us too) to make sure to be attentive to studying God’s Word. Studying God’s Word is not just for preachers and teachers, but this is something every believer ought to be doing daily. God does not want us only relying on what we hear from preachers and teachers, but Go...

Day 3

We saw in the devotion on Day 1 that we are not to get involved in arguments over things that just don’t matter. God comes back today in 2 Timothy 2:16-18 and deals again with avoiding “all irreverent babble and godless chatter” (AMP). God wants all of us to stay away from worthless conversations and foolish talk that lead to godless actions....

Day 4

From yesterday’s devotion, God made it clear how we are to avoid worthless, empty, and/or foolish conversations of any kind. We are to know God’s Word so we live His Truth and share His Truth with everyone we know. The devotion today is focused on 2 Timothy 2:19. Through Paul, God reminds Timothy and us that His Truth still stands. The only s...

Day 5

Today, God furthers His truth from 2 Timothy 2:19 and gives us an illustration in 2 Timothy 2:20-21. God has Paul use the home of someone who is wealthy and the items within the wealthy person’s home for comparison to our lives. God tells us that some houses have objects, utensils, plates, cups, and other things that are made of gold and silv...

Day 7

God has already told us twice in 2 Timothy 2:14-26 not to get involved in worthless conversations. Today, God brings it up one more time. God gives the warning not to get involved in stupid, ignorant arguments because they only lead to fights and bickering. As God’s children, we are not to get involved in quarrels; therefore, we must act diff...
