Scripture to Read: 2 Timothy 2:19
From yesterday’s devotion, God made it clear how we are to avoid worthless, empty, and/or foolish conversations of any kind. We are to know God’s Word so we live His Truth and share His Truth with everyone we know. The devotion today is focused on 2 Timothy 2:19. Through Paul, God reminds Timothy and us that His Truth still stands. The only solid rock we have to stand on is our Lord Jesus Christ and His Word. Since Hymenaeus and Philetus had been teaching that the resurrection of the church had already happened, God uses Paul to reassure Timothy and us that “The Lord knows those who are His.” In other words, through Paul, God was letting all believers know that none of us will be left behind when Christ comes in the clouds to take His church home (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18). God also uses Paul to remind Timothy and us that our lives need to be lived so that we are constantly turning away from the garbage of this world. To abstain from all evil, wickedness, deceit, wrongdoing, and anything else that dishonors our Lord is what all believers must choose to do each day. Our lives need to shine for our Lord, and everyone needs to see and hear the love of Christ through us. Living a life that imitates our Lord is what God expects from us as His children (Matthew 5:48, Luke 6:36, 2 Corinthians 7:1, Ephesians 4:32, Ephesians 5:1-2). God’s foundation is firm; let's stand on it daily.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about standing firm in Him and abstaining from the junk of this world?
2. How are you standing in God’s Truth daily and how are you turning away from everything that dishonors our Lord?
