Scripture to Read: 2 Thessalonians 2:4-5
We continue our look at the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction today. The man of lawlessness is going to demand that everyone worship him. Now, we as believers know that only God deserves to be worshipped as clearly stated in Matthew 4:10 and in Luke 4:8 “Jesus answered him, ‘It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’’” Of course, our Lord Jesus Christ is making a direct quote from Deuteronomy 6:13. So, we know God is the only one mankind must worship, but the man of lawlessness will want that worship for himself alone. The man of lawlessness will set himself up as being God in the temple at Jerusalem. This temple has not been rebuilt yet, but it will be one day. The Man of lawlessness will demand this blasphemous worship from everyone on the face of the earth. Since the temple has not been rebuilt yet, we know that the son of lawlessness has not yet come. There is no doubt that we are living in the Last Days, but two things still have to take place before the antichrist, the son of lawlessness arrives on the scene: the re-building of the Temple in Jerusalem and the confirming of a covenant with Israel. God led Paul to teach these things to the believers in Thessalonica, so false teachers would not sway them. God wants to make sure we are not swayed by any false teachings as well.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about the anti-Christ and about what still has to happen before he arises in power?
2. How should you be living daily, knowing that Christ will return one day for His church?
