Day 6

Scripture to Read: 2 Peter 3:10–15

Interestingly, God led Peter, in 2 Peter 3:10, to come back and discuss “His day,” which is when everything as we know it will be obliterated for all eternity. We, as believers, know Christ will return, and God’s Word describes Christ’s return being “just like a thief,” which means no one will be expecting Him. What an incredible reminder to us, as believers, to make sure that we live every day with the great expectation that our Lord could come back for us as His bride. God even tells us in 2 Peter 3:11–13 that since everything as we know it is going to be destroyed, we better be living holy and godly lives. What we need to be looking forward to is that day when our Lord calls us home to be with Him. This means focusing on the things above and not on anything this world has to offer us (Colossians 3:1–2). We also need to be looking forward to the new heavens and new earth God has promised to create. The Good News is that the new heavens and new earth will be filled with God’s righteousness. Because all of this is coming to be, God tells us this in 2 Peter 3:14–15, that we must choose to live and walk in His peace (Colossians 3:15), to live pure and blameless lives, and always to remember that He is still giving people time to be saved from the power and penalty of sin. Let’s be sure we’re pursuing Christ and His Word daily.

Challenge & Application

· How are you preparing for Christ’s return, knowing His day will come like a thief? · How are you guarding your heart to stay focused on the things above and not on what this world offers you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We finish up 2 Peter this week as we walk through 2 Peter 3:1–18. As chapter three begins, God had Peter reveal to us that this is the second letter God had Peter write to the believers in his day. Why God waited until this point in the letter to remind us of this fact is made clear by God. God used Peter to stir up the minds of all believers...

Day 2

As we read 2 Peter 3:3–4, God had Peter shift subjects, and He had Peter talk about the “mockers” who will be present in the “last days.” We must understand that we have been living in the ”last days” for over 2,000 years. Since we entered the “last days” when Christ ascended into heaven, there also have been “mockers” for more than 2,000 yea...

Day 3

Today we continue with 2 Peter 3:5–6, where God also points out that the mockers pay zero attention to the flood of Noah’s day because they don’t believe it was a global flood or that the flood ever really happened. Now, if we’re not careful, we’ll totally miss these most important words in 2 Peter 3:5, “that by the word of God.” Why are thes...

Day 4

In 2 Peter 3:7, God had Peter begin to write about His judgment. We read that God plans to destroy both the heavens and the earth with fire. The fire of God will not only destroy the heavens and the earth, but this same fire will bring judgment and destruction on all of the ungodly. Jesus also spoke of heaven and earth passing away but that H...

Day 5

As we have mentioned, and of course, know firsthand, we live in a world filled with sin and sinful people. Though we live in a world that is full of sin, and though we’d love to see our Lord come back quickly, God is being patient with all mankind. God is waiting for every lost soul to repent of their sin, to come to the full knowledge of the...

Day 7

God had Peter share some final words in 2 Peter 3:15–18. It's incredible that God had Peter reference Paul and that some of Paul's writings were hard to understand. It's also awesome to see how God had Peter confirm the fact that the writings of Paul were HIS Holy Word. About Paul's writings, God had Peter write that the ignorant and unstable...
