Scripture to Read: 2 Peter 3:5–6
Today we continue with 2 Peter 3:5–6, where God also points out that the mockers pay zero attention to the flood of Noah’s day because they don’t believe it was a global flood or that the flood ever really happened. Now, if we’re not careful, we’ll totally miss these most important words in 2 Peter 3:5, “that by the word of God.” Why are these words so critical? Because God is lovingly reminding us that HIS ALL-POWERFUL WORD created everything! Take a moment and read Genesis 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, and 26. In every one of these verses in Genesis 1, we read the same thing, “Then God said.” God’s Word spoke EVERYTHING into existence. In Hebrews 4:12, God tells us again how incredibly powerful His Word is for our lives. Because God’s Word is so powerful, we must get into His Word daily, and we must memorize His Word so that our minds and hearts are renewed by His Word. Now, back to Noah’s flood. Since God created the world out of water, as He says in 2 Peter 3:5, God makes sure to note that He destroyed the world with water during Noah’s flood. God made the point in 2 Peter 3:5 that the mockers totally miss what God did in the beginning; therefore, they totally miss His handiwork throughout the ages, including what He continues to do today. So, don’t be surprised or distracted by the mockers of our day. God’s Word will definitely be fulfilled.
