Day 2

Scripture to Read: 2 Peter 3:3–4

As we read 2 Peter 3:3–4, God had Peter shift subjects, and He had Peter talk about the “mockers” who will be present in the “last days.” We must understand that we have been living in the ”last days” for over 2,000 years. Since we entered the “last days” when Christ ascended into heaven, there also have been “mockers” for more than 2,000 years who have questioned Christ’s promises and questioned Christ’s return. God says that the “mockers” will say this in 2 Peter 3:4 “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” God made it pretty clear that the “mockers” will question why it’s taking so long for Christ to come back. They will make fun of God’s promises and even ask what has happened to the promise that Jesus made about coming back. These “mockers” will go so far as to compare the times in history and point out that nothing has changed even before the times of their ancestors. Now, we know that sin has not changed, for ever since the fall of man in Genesis 3, mankind has reaped the consequences of the sin nature we inherited. But, on the flip side, over the centuries, millions of lives have also been transformed by the grace, mercy, forgiveness, and salvation offered through our Lord Jesus Christ. Though we live in a sin-filled world, God continues to redeem souls who surrender to Christ as Lord. God’s handiwork is evident no matter what the “mockers” say.

Challenge & Application

· Where have you experienced “mockers” in your life or seen them in someone else’s life? · How have you seen God transform you and also transform other believers around you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We finish up 2 Peter this week as we walk through 2 Peter 3:1–18. As chapter three begins, God had Peter reveal to us that this is the second letter God had Peter write to the believers in his day. Why God waited until this point in the letter to remind us of this fact is made clear by God. God used Peter to stir up the minds of all believers...

Day 3

Today we continue with 2 Peter 3:5–6, where God also points out that the mockers pay zero attention to the flood of Noah’s day because they don’t believe it was a global flood or that the flood ever really happened. Now, if we’re not careful, we’ll totally miss these most important words in 2 Peter 3:5, “that by the word of God.” Why are thes...

Day 4

In 2 Peter 3:7, God had Peter begin to write about His judgment. We read that God plans to destroy both the heavens and the earth with fire. The fire of God will not only destroy the heavens and the earth, but this same fire will bring judgment and destruction on all of the ungodly. Jesus also spoke of heaven and earth passing away but that H...

Day 5

As we have mentioned, and of course, know firsthand, we live in a world filled with sin and sinful people. Though we live in a world that is full of sin, and though we’d love to see our Lord come back quickly, God is being patient with all mankind. God is waiting for every lost soul to repent of their sin, to come to the full knowledge of the...

Day 6

Interestingly, God led Peter, in 2 Peter 3:10, to come back and discuss “His day,” which is when everything as we know it will be obliterated for all eternity. We, as believers, know Christ will return, and God’s Word describes Christ’s return being “just like a thief,” which means no one will be expecting Him. What an incredible reminder to ...

Day 7

God had Peter share some final words in 2 Peter 3:15–18. It's incredible that God had Peter reference Paul and that some of Paul's writings were hard to understand. It's also awesome to see how God had Peter confirm the fact that the writings of Paul were HIS Holy Word. About Paul's writings, God had Peter write that the ignorant and unstable...
