Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 2:15
We finish up our walk through 1 Timothy 2:9-15 today. 1 Timothy 2:15 has been a difficult passage to interpret for many over the years. To say that it means a woman will never die in childbirth if she lives a godly life would be a horrible interpretation. There have been many godly women who have died during childbirth over the centuries. There have also been many ungodly women who have definitely survived during childbirth. Probably the best way to unpack 1 Timothy 2:15 is by examining the original Greek. In the original, it says women will be saved in the childbirth. The childbirth carries with it the promise that women can be saved, just like men, through the Messiah. We can see that even though Eve was deceived in the garden and sinned, God used Mary to bring salvation into the world through the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, Eve was not to blame for the fall of the human race, but it was Adam. On the other hand, God used a woman, Mary, to bring salvation to the entire human race. To continue in faith, love, holiness, and self-control are all attributes/qualities/fruit of the Holy Spirit. God desires all godly women and, of course, godly men to walk in these attributes/qualities/fruit every day (Galatians 5:22-23 and 2 Peter 1:5-9). As we walk in submission to the Holy Spirit in us, we are able to lead others to do the same.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about what God did through the life of a woman?
2. How will you walk in the attributes/qualities/fruit of the Holy Spirit each day?
