Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 2:14
God continues to give us clarity on why He chose to place man as the head in the home and the church. Today, we read that Adam was not deceived, but it was Eve who was deceived. The reason God brings this truth to light is that it also is tied to the different roles of authority that God has given to men and women. We know that both Adam and Eve sinned in Genesis 3. Interestingly enough, God never blames Eve for the fall of the human race, but Adam is the one who is blamed. God says it this way in Romans 5:12, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.” Adam is held responsible because God had given him the authority to lead his wife. Because God gave Adam this authority, Adam also had the responsibility to lead his wife well. Adam failed in his responsibility because he submitted to Eve’s offer and took the fruit and ate. Though Eve was deceived, but Adam was not deceived, Adam knowingly sinned against God’s command that was given to him in Genesis 2:16-17. Adam’s sin impacted the entire human race, but Eve’s weakness to be more easily deceived made her more high risk in a place of authority. Eve was deceived into thinking that God was keeping something from her (Genesis 3:5). Her “feelings/emotions” led her to sin and not rational thinking.
