Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 1:4
Since we are taking 1 Timothy 1:1-11 verse by verse so far, we are continuing from yesterday’s instruction to make sure none of us are teaching strange doctrines. Today we read in 1 Timothy 1:4, as God led Paul to write that we also make sure we, as believers, do not “pay attention to myths and endless genealogies.” The reason God gives this instruction through Paul is because myths and genealogies give rise to “useless speculations and meaningless arguments.” These do not advance God's Truth, and God's Truth teaches us that we must be grounded in our faith in Him. To be grounded in our faith in Christ requires us to be totally surrendered to Christ through our trust and confidence in Him. Putting our faith into action is what God has called us to do. It’s not enough to say we trust in Christ as Lord if our lives do not show that we trust Christ as Lord. We also are not called to argue and speculate on what we think is true, but we are to know God’s Truth for His Word is Truth. God tells us in James 1:22-25 not to merely be hearers of His Word, but we must be doers. Abiding in Christ and His Word is how God transforms every area of our lives. That is why God gives this warning in 1 Timothy 1:4. Every believer must choose to feed on God’s Word daily, fellowship with God through passionate, purposeful prayer, and walk in obedience to Him. Being a Christian changes us forever.
