Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 1:2
Today we focus on 1 Timothy 1:2. Today, we learn that this letter was originally written to Timothy, but we must never lose sight that God wrote this letter through Paul to all believers, not just to Timothy. God had Paul refer to Timothy as “my true child in the faith.” We know that Timothy put his faith in the Lord from an early age but we are not sure exactly when that happened. Timothy saw this sincere trust in God first modeled by his grandmother, Lois, and his mom, Eunice (2 Timothy 1:5). We don’t know whether Timothy’s dad ever came to know Christ, but we do know Timothy’s dad was not a Jew but a Gentile (Acts 16:1-2). Timothy was led to the Lord by either his mom and grandmother or possibly by Paul when Paul first came to Timothy's hometown of Lystra, as recorded in Acts 14:6. Either way, we know Paul mentored Timothy and then Timothy eventually became the pastor of the church planted by Paul in Ephesus. The greeting of “grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord” was a normal greeting among fellow believers. This greeting is an incredible reminder of what we have been abundantly blessed with from God the Father through Christ Jesus Our Lord. God, through Christ, has richly given us His grace, mercy, and peace for all eternity. God wants us never to forget all we have in Christ so that we will share His grace, mercy, and peace with everyone else.
