Day 7

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 4:10–11

We read in 1 Peter 4:11 a couple of examples of the spiritual gifts God gives to people and how those gifts are to be used for Him. First, God deals with how we communicate with our words. Communication today can be done by speaking, texting, using different types of social media, or even signing for the hearing impaired. No matter what kind of communication we use, God wants our words to communicate as if our words are coming directly from His mouth. Speaking words as if God is speaking them is an incredible challenge for us. It is a challenge because we can often allow our words to be flippant, non-caring, harsh, unkind, hateful, hurtful, humiliating, disrespectful, and many more. Because our words can be ungodly, God gives us His command because He knows our struggle with our words. We often struggle with our words and communication because what we communicate reveals what is filling our hearts at the time of our communication. Our communication must always give God’s grace to those we communicate with. Our words need to benefit everyone who hears or reads what we share. God points out what our communication should look and sound like in Ephesians 4:29 & 5:4 and Colossians 3:8 & 4:6. God tells us that as we serve, we are to serve through His strength because He gives us the strength to serve. Our communication and service are all about us bringing glory to our Heavenly Father through our Lord Jesus, who lives in us by His Spirit. So, let’s communicate and serve Him well.

Challenge & Application

· How are you communicating so your Lord is honored and your communication gives God’s grace? · What areas of your communication need to be changed so that God is glorified in all you say and communicate?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week we focus on 1 Peter 4:7–11, as God speaks to us about several different areas of our lives and how we must submit to Him and walk in obedience to Him. God says, in 1 Peter 4:7, The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. When God led Peter to write this, as we know, the ...

Day 2

We continue to unpack 1 Peter 4:7 today as God speaks to us about our prayer life. We know our Lord Jesus will come back for His church one day very soon. It could even be today, but too many people live with little or zero expectations of Christ’s return. Even within the body of believers, many have lost focus on their intimate fellowship wi...

Day 3

We will take one more day to focus on what God is communicating to us in 1 Peter 4:7. When we live with the HIGH expectation of Christ’s return, we will intently focus on three areas of our spiritual walk with our Lord. These three areas are not in chronological order, for each of these is vital to our walk and growth with our Lord. First, we...

Day 4

We know that God’s greatest commandment is to love Him with ALL our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Matthew 22:37–40). Of course, the second greatest command is to love our neighbor as ourselves. Therefore, we should not be surprised that God tells us, in 1 Peter 4:8, that above everything else we do, we must continually stay intensely passi...

Day 5

As we read 1 Peter 4:9, we see that God is challenging all believers to show hospitality toward each other. To be hospitable means we choose to be welcoming, helpful, neighborly, warm-hearted, or kind-hearted. For some people, showing hospitality comes easy because they have the gift of hospitality. Now, just because we do not have the gift o...

Day 6

God gets specific in 1 Peter 4:10–11 about sharing Him with others. As we discussed in yesterday’s devotion, God has given us physical gifts to meet our needs and to help meet the needs of others. Today, God points out that He has also given us spiritual gifts to serve in His Kingdom, carrying out the work He has for us to do, and that it is ...
