Day 4

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 4:8

We know that God’s greatest commandment is to love Him with ALL our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Matthew 22:37–40). Of course, the second greatest command is to love our neighbor as ourselves. Therefore, we should not be surprised that God tells us, in 1 Peter 4:8, that above everything else we do, we must continually stay intensely passionate in our love for each other. Then God tells us why our love for each other is so important. When we love with God’s unconditional love, which is only possible through His Holy Spirit in us, then our love for each other covers an abundance of sins. We need to take note that God does not say that our love cleanses an abundance of sins, but instead, our love covers a ton of sins. Now, Christ’s love does cleanse every believer of ALL sins. But, because we cannot cleanse sin, God’s love, through us, covers the sins we’ve committed against each other. We must still seek reconciliation with those we’ve sinned against by confessing our sin to them and asking them to forgive us of our sin against them. Then, three of the most powerful words we can give to someone who has asked us to forgive them of their sin against us is to say, “I forgive you.” For us to keep relationships healthy, we must love unconditionally, seek forgiveness when we’ve offended someone (Matthew 5:23–24), and give these three powerful words, “I forgive you,” to those who have asked for our forgiveness. So, let’s begin to love as God has commanded.

Challenge & Application

· How would you say you are loving those in your life and those God brings into your life? · Is there anyone you need to confess to and seek forgiveness from and if yes, how and when will you do this?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week we focus on 1 Peter 4:7–11, as God speaks to us about several different areas of our lives and how we must submit to Him and walk in obedience to Him. God says, in 1 Peter 4:7, The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. When God led Peter to write this, as we know, the ...

Day 2

We continue to unpack 1 Peter 4:7 today as God speaks to us about our prayer life. We know our Lord Jesus will come back for His church one day very soon. It could even be today, but too many people live with little or zero expectations of Christ’s return. Even within the body of believers, many have lost focus on their intimate fellowship wi...

Day 3

When we live with the HIGH expectation of Christ’s return, we will intently focus on three areas of our spiritual walk with our Lord. These three areas are not in chronological order, for each of these is vital to our walk and growth with our Lord. First, we...

Day 5

As we read 1 Peter 4:9, we see that God is challenging all believers to show hospitality toward each other. To be hospitable means we choose to be welcoming, helpful, neighborly, warm-hearted, or kind-hearted. For some people, showing hospitality comes easy because they have the gift of hospitality. Now, just because we do not have the gift o...

Day 6

God gets specific in 1 Peter 4:10–11 about sharing Him with others. As we discussed in yesterday’s devotion, God has given us physical gifts to meet our needs and to help meet the needs of others. Today, God points out that He has also given us spiritual gifts to serve in His Kingdom, carrying out the work He has for us to do, and that it is ...

Day 7

We read in 1 Peter 4:11 a couple of examples of the spiritual gifts God gives to people and how those gifts are to be used for Him. First, God deals with how we communicate with our words. Communication today can be done by speaking, texting, using different types of social media, or even signing for the hearing impaired. No matter what kind ...
