Day 6

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 4:17

As God used Peter to write His Words in 1 Peter 4:17, God specifically says that judgment is inevitable for His children. What God was saying to the first believers who received this letter from Peter and what He is saying to us is that the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s children. So, the fire/judgment/trials/tests we endure now, God uses to purify us. Just like gold and silver and other precious metals are purified through intense fire, so we too are purified by our Lord through the fierce, fiery trials in this life. For example, as silver is heated to high temperatures, the impurities float to the top and those impurities are skimmed off and cast aside. The silversmith knows when the silver is pure, for it is pure when he can see his reflection in the silver, like a mirror. God takes us through fiery trials so that the impurities in our lives are cast aside, and we reflect our Lord’s image through our lives. But the fire that the ungodly will go through will be an everlasting punishment and a fire that is never quenched. Remember, God told us in 1 Peter 4:12 not to be surprised by our fiery trials and since we know what they’re used for, those trials give us another reason to rejoice in our Lord. So, when God lovingly disciplines us (Hebrews 12:5–11), it is not used for punishment but purification. But the ungodly will face their fire later, and their punishment will be forever.

Challenge & Application

· How will you look at the fiery trials in this life differently after what God taught you today? · Who will you share Christ with this week knowing that the fire they will face without Christ is forever?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has a lot in store for us this week as we examine 1 Peter 4:12–19 and finish out 1 Peter 4. God gets very specific with us this week about suffering and how to deal with it as we walk in obedience to Him. As God led Peter to write 1 Peter 4:12, the verse starts with“ Beloved,” which is incredibly encouraging for all of us as believers. Go...

Day 2

Continuing our walk through 1 Peter 4:12–19, we find God taking us to a whole new level when it comes to our reaction to our tests, trials, and persecution in this life. We are to react differently because of our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As we read 1 Peter 4:13, God tells us to rejoice in our sufferings because we’re sharing i...

Day 3

As we take one verse at a time this week, we see so much richness through God’s Holy Word. In 1 Peter 4:14, God gives us some great news about being insulted because we belong to our Lord Jesus Christ. For most of us, when we first began our relationship with our Lord, we probably never considered that being insulted would be a blessing due t...

Day 4

The sad truth is that sometimes we can make fleshly decisions as Christians. Because of our fleshly choices, we suffer judgment from those around us. But God does not want us acting fleshly, for when we do, we act like lost people. So, God had Peter write in 1 Peter 4:15 a warning for every believer. Through Peter, God warns us to make sure w...

Day 5

After warning us to be sure we do not suffer for acting fleshly, God comes right back in 1 Peter 4:16 and tells us, “but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.” The term “Christian” is only used THREE times in the New Testament. Of course, we see the term Christian used here in 1 Peter 4...

Day 7

As we finish up, God used Peter to unpack the trials all believers face. In 1 Peter 4:18, God had Peter quote Proverbs 11:31. God is not saying that we are saved by our works, for we know that is not true (Ephesians 2:8–9). God is reminding us that the price of following Him will cost us everything. Now, you might ask, “If my good works do no...
