Day 4

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 4:15

The sad truth is that sometimes we can make fleshly decisions as Christians. Because of our fleshly choices, we suffer judgment from those around us. But God does not want us acting fleshly, for when we do, we act like lost people. So, God had Peter write in 1 Peter 4:15 a warning for every believer. Through Peter, God warns us to make sure we do not suffer for making bad decisions. Making fleshly decisions always results in sin and, of course, sin always results in death. God also used Paul to write to us and, of course, to the believers at Corinth about being “fleshly” (1 Corinthians 3:1–3). The believers in Corinth allowed jealousy and hostility to linger in their attitudes toward one another. Those attitudes caused them to miss out on the fullness of God’s Word. God does not want us to miss anything He has for us as His children. God desires us to pursue Him and His Word passionately and not allow our fleshly desires to rule and reign in us (Romans 6:12–14). To be clear, all fleshly decisions are from our old way of life. When we surrendered to Christ as Lord, He made us brand new in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). Though we are brand new creatures, we still live in our fleshly shell, and it hungers for the garbage of this world (1 John 2:15–17). To live for our Lord, we must crucify our fleshly desires every day and choose to walk in obedience to our Lord and not our flesh.

Challenge & Application

· Since we live in a fleshly shell that hungers for the junk of this world, how are you dying to your flesh and living in Christ? · How can you help other Christians who are struggling to overcome their fleshly desires (also see Galatians 6:1–2)?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has a lot in store for us this week as we examine 1 Peter 4:12–19 and finish out 1 Peter 4. God gets very specific with us this week about suffering and how to deal with it as we walk in obedience to Him. As God led Peter to write 1 Peter 4:12, the verse starts with“ Beloved,” which is incredibly encouraging for all of us as believers. Go...

Day 2

Continuing our walk through 1 Peter 4:12–19, we find God taking us to a whole new level when it comes to our reaction to our tests, trials, and persecution in this life. We are to react differently because of our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As we read 1 Peter 4:13, God tells us to rejoice in our sufferings because we’re sharing i...

Day 3

As we take one verse at a time this week, we see so much richness through God’s Holy Word. In 1 Peter 4:14, God gives us some great news about being insulted because we belong to our Lord Jesus Christ. For most of us, when we first began our relationship with our Lord, we probably never considered that being insulted would be a blessing due t...

Day 5

After warning us to be sure we do not suffer for acting fleshly, God comes right back in 1 Peter 4:16 and tells us, “but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.” The term “Christian” is only used THREE times in the New Testament. Of course, we see the term Christian used here in 1 Peter 4...

Day 6

As God used Peter to write His Words in 1 Peter 4:17, God specifically says that judgment is inevitable for His children. What God was saying to the first believers who received this letter from Peter and what He is saying to us is that the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s children. So, the fire/judgment/trials/tests w...

Day 7

As we finish up, God used Peter to unpack the trials all believers face. In 1 Peter 4:18, God had Peter quote Proverbs 11:31. God is not saying that we are saved by our works, for we know that is not true (Ephesians 2:8–9). God is reminding us that the price of following Him will cost us everything. Now, you might ask, “If my good works do no...
