Day 2

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 4:13

Continuing our walk through 1 Peter 4:12–19, we find God taking us to a whole new level when it comes to our reaction to our tests, trials, and persecution in this life. We are to react differently because of our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As we read 1 Peter 4:13, God tells us to rejoice in our sufferings because we’re sharing in the sufferings of Christ. Most of us normally do not have “rejoicing” on our minds or lips when we’re walking through persecutions, tribulations, trials, or tests. Instead, we usually call out to God, asking Him for a quick deliverance or a much easier time. When God had Peter first write this letter, the Christians in Peter’s day faced incredibly fierce persecution. Christians were being crucified, burned at the stake, thrown into prison, and many other tribulations because they followed our Lord Jesus Christ. So, consider that God told them to “keep on rejoicing,” which seems so abnormal. But, when we take into account all that God has given us through our Lord Jesus Christ, we have an enormous amount of reasons to “keep on rejoicing” even during very hard times. The other reason we rejoice continually is that we are going to get to see the fullness of Christ’s glory when He is fully shown to all the world. Choosing to rejoice in this life, and especially in the tests and trials, is an act of our will. We can’t wait for our feelings to rejoice; we must choose to rejoice even when we don’t feel like it.

Challenge & Application

· When you go through tests, trials, persecutions, etc…is your first reaction to rejoice, complain, or call out to God for relief? Why? · How can you get to the point of choosing to continually rejoice when you face the tough times in this life?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has a lot in store for us this week as we examine 1 Peter 4:12–19 and finish out 1 Peter 4. God gets very specific with us this week about suffering and how to deal with it as we walk in obedience to Him. As God led Peter to write 1 Peter 4:12, the verse starts with“ Beloved,” which is incredibly encouraging for all of us as believers. Go...

Day 3

As we take one verse at a time this week, we see so much richness through God’s Holy Word. In 1 Peter 4:14, God gives us some great news about being insulted because we belong to our Lord Jesus Christ. For most of us, when we first began our relationship with our Lord, we probably never considered that being insulted would be a blessing due t...

Day 4

The sad truth is that sometimes we can make fleshly decisions as Christians. Because of our fleshly choices, we suffer judgment from those around us. But God does not want us acting fleshly, for when we do, we act like lost people. So, God had Peter write in 1 Peter 4:15 a warning for every believer. Through Peter, God warns us to make sure w...

Day 5

After warning us to be sure we do not suffer for acting fleshly, God comes right back in 1 Peter 4:16 and tells us, “but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.” The term “Christian” is only used THREE times in the New Testament. Of course, we see the term Christian used here in 1 Peter 4...

Day 6

As God used Peter to write His Words in 1 Peter 4:17, God specifically says that judgment is inevitable for His children. What God was saying to the first believers who received this letter from Peter and what He is saying to us is that the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s children. So, the fire/judgment/trials/tests w...

Day 7

As we finish up, God used Peter to unpack the trials all believers face. In 1 Peter 4:18, God had Peter quote Proverbs 11:31. God is not saying that we are saved by our works, for we know that is not true (Ephesians 2:8–9). God is reminding us that the price of following Him will cost us everything. Now, you might ask, “If my good works do no...
