Day 1

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 1:13

Last week, the Lord taught us to rejoice while suffering because Christ is our living hope. In today's devotion, our Lord shows us how we are to prepare for the spiritual battles we face each day, always remembering our hope is in Christ. Since we know there is suffering in this life, God calls all believers to prepare our minds for action, to be self-controlled, and to set our hope on God's grace through Christ that will be fully revealed when Christ is fully revealed. For our minds to be prepared for action, we must be renewed in our minds through God's Word (Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:23; 2 Corinthians 10:5). For us to be self-controlled, we must realize God's Spirit in us gives us all of the strength and courage we need to walk in obedience to our Lord (Ephesians 6:10; 1 Thessalonians 2:2). To set our hope on God's grace, we must know that true hope is only found in God through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8). Knowing our hope is Christ, we willingly rest and trust in His grace which will be fully realized "at the revelation of Jesus Christ." Previously mentioned in 1 Peter 1:7, this phrase refers to the return of Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are called to set our complete hope on the grace of God that will be fully realized when the Lord returns. Because Jesus has been raised, we have the confident hope of His return. So, as we face the tests and trials of this life, even suffering at times, our hope rests in Christ.

Challenge & Application

1. What does God teach us about where our true hope is found? 2. How are you daily preparing your mind for action, staying self-controlled, and keeping your hope fixed on Christ?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

God has told us to keep our hope fixed on the grace we have in Christ. Today, God starts by calling us obedient children, which means He expects our obedience to Him every day. So, walking in obedience to our Lord means we must not walk in the patterns of this world. God tells us in 1 Peter 1:14, "do not be conformed to the passions of your f...

Day 3

Yesterday, we saw how God expects us, as His children, to walk in obedience to Him and to live holy lives. 1 Peter 1:17-19 God continues showing us who we are in Him, "And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ran...

Day 4

This week we have seen that true hope is only found through a relationship with God the Father. We also know that the only way to have that relationship with God the Father is through believing in (trusting in, clinging to, relying on) our Lord Jesus Christ. God the Father set forth His plan of redemption before anyone was even born (Ephesian...

Day 5

In today's devotion, we're going to see how the work that Jesus has done should produce in us transformed hearts that express His love to others around us (Matthew 22:39). Notice the type of love described here is 1 Peter 1:22. This love is a "sincere brotherly" love, and God calls us to love "earnestly" from "a pure heart." Our "pure heart" ...

Day 6

God has been revealing to us this week that where our hope and faith are found indicates the foundation of our life. Today God nails down the point to all believers that all of us have been born again, not by anything that can perish but "through the living and abiding word of God" (1 Peter 1:23). God led Peter to look at His Holy Word throug...

Day 7

Today in 1 Peter 2:1-3, God gives us what affections and attitudes we must die to and what we must walk in every day as Christians. As God led the Apostle Peter to write, we know from 1 Peter 1:25 that God's Word "remains forever. And this word is the good news that was preached to you." Because God gave us His living and abiding Word, we, as...
