Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 1:2
So far this week, God the Father has encouraged us to recognize the fullness of His work in our lives as Father, Son, and Spirit. Today God reveals to us that because His Holy Spirit has made us holy (and continues His work of making us holy each day) that He (the Holy Spirit) also gives us His power (because He lives in us) to obey our Lord Jesus Christ (because His blood has cleansed us and made us new). That’s humbling, amazing, encouraging, mind-blowing, etc… Being Three but One, God is doing all of the work on our behalf. We must choose to believe the fullness of His Truth so that we walk in obedience to His Truth. Too many Christians stay spiritually immature because they never move beyond the “milk” of the Word (1 Corinthians 3:1-3). These immature Christians, by choice, submit more to their flesh than they do the Spirit within them. God warns us as believers not to grieve or quench the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30 & 1 Thessalonians 5:19). As God’s children, we are to be imitators of Him (Ephesians 5:1). If we would fully believe God’s Truth, we all would then daily walk in the fullness of the freedom that our Lord Jesus Christ has given to us (John 8:31-32). Christ’s death, burial, resurrection, and ascension have set us free from the power and penalty of sin. Thank Him today for His life in you, and then live each day of this new year in the fullness of the life you have in Him.
Challenge & Application
1. As you consider all that God has done for you, how are you enjoying the freedom you have in Christ?
2. What changes will you make?
