Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 1:1
Living in a country that is not the same place where you were born means you are a foreigner. Some would call those people aliens, strangers, immigrants, outsiders, and maybe even unwelcome. As God led Peter to write this first letter, Peter described the believers he was writing to as aliens, exiles, or foreigners. These followers of Christ had been scattered because of the persecution of the church of our Lord. But these Christians were also scattered because the church was growing, and people were coming to know Christ throughout the regions of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. Another reason God led Peter to call these believers aliens was because their true home was not here on earth. The believers this letter was originally written to knew that their true home was in heaven. As His children, God wants us to know that our home is not here on this earth either. God has chosen us to be His children, and He has placed us in His Kingdom for His glory. God tells us that our home is with Him over and over again in His Word. God led Paul to write to all Christians about where our home is in Ephesians 2:6-7, raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Though we live physically here on earth, positionally, God tells us our home is with Him, being seated with Christ.
Challenge & Application
1. As you consider what you focus on each day, how are you living your life different from the world, knowing your home is not here?
2. What should you do differently that you are not yet doing to help others see that Christ wants them in His Kingdom too?
