Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 9:22
God had Paul mention one more group of people that he sought to share the gospel of Christ with. God had Paul record this in 1 Corinthians 9:22, “To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.” It’s interesting that Paul refers to a particular group of people as simply being weak. Most likely, God had Paul refer to those who are “weak in faith,” since God had Paul record this in Romans 14:1, “Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions.” Those who were weak in faith had little or no belief in anything. They were not necessarily worshipping idols and false gods like many of the other Gentiles, and they were not seeking favor with God through the Jewish rituals, ceremonies, and festivals. They were people who lived without hope or a sense of purpose. Our world today is still full of people just like those in Paul’s day. They are weak and they chase after the things this world has to offer hoping to find some sense of purpose and meaning to their lives. God used Paul to come alongside them, sharing the hope, purpose, and peace found in Christ alone. God calls each of us, as His children, to continue to do the same thing today—to reach out to those who are weak, cast down, and hopeless so that they can know, through Christ, that their lives have meaning.
