Day 7

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 5:9–13

God had Paul explain that as a body of believers, they needed to continue to reach lost people, and as they did, they must associate with lost people to be able to reach lost people with the Gospel of Christ. But in contrast, they should not associate with Christians who willingly live a sinful lifestyle because those Christians are a hindrance to the church. God had Paul write it this way in 1 Corinthians 5:9–13, “I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; 10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. 11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one. 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? 13 But those who are outside, God judges. Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.” God wanted the Christians in Corinth to understand that judging lost people was not their job, but it was definitely their responsibility to judge Christians who willingly sinned against the Lord—that is the same for us today. We must expect lost people to act lost and not judge them for their sinful actions, because without Christ, they have no power to overcome sin, but Christians do.

Challenge & Application

How does God want us to reach the lost people within our community? How does God expect us to treat saved people who are willingly living in blatant sin?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus came to earth as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. Therefore, when any believer willingly sins, it breaks God’s heart since sin is outright rebellion against our Lord. There was the sin of immorality that was lingering among the believers in Corinth. God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 5:1: “It is actually reported...

Day 2

The believers in Corinth had not dealt with the sexual immorality within their church. We read in 1 Corinthians 5:3–5, “For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assem...

Day 4

God wanted the believers in Corinth to understand the effect this sin would have, not only on the unrepentant man, but also on the church. God had Paul write this to the Christians in Corinth in 1 Corinthians 5:6: “Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?” God had Paul point out to them ...

Day 5

God guided Paul to tell the Christians in Corinth what they must do, as we read this in 1 Corinthians 5:7: “Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.” God had Paul tell them that they had to get rid of the old “yeast,” which meant they must rem...

Day 6

When we willingly confess our sins and repent (turn back to God to be in right fellowship with Him), then there is reason to rejoice and celebrate. God wanted the believers in Corinth to know how to appropriately celebrate as well, so He had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 5:8: “Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor ...
